The unofficial WhatsApp connection: what to know before you link your number
Version 2026-10-14. Last updated 14 October 2026.
A plain-spoken heads-up. The app connects to your WhatsApp in a way WhatsApp has not approved, and WhatsApp's rules do not allow it. In practice, accounts being restricted for using a linked app like this is uncommon, but it is possible, and we cannot promise it will never happen to you. This page explains what that means, what keeps the risk low, and what to do if it ever happens.
1. What the app does to your WhatsApp
The app links to your own WhatsApp account as a "linked device", the same way WhatsApp Web does. It does this with an unofficial software library that was built by volunteers by studying how WhatsApp works. WhatsApp did not make it, did not approve it, and does not support it.
Once linked, the app on our server can read the messages that your WhatsApp account receives. It can send a message from your account when you tap send. It also tells WhatsApp that a chat has been read when you open that chat in the app.
2. WhatsApp has not approved this
WhatsApp did not make the app, has not approved it, and does not support it. WhatsApp's terms do not allow third-party apps to connect to an account this way, and that is true even though you are only linking your own account and only sending what you choose to send. We would rather tell you that plainly now than have you find it in the fine print later.
3. How likely is a problem
As far as we know, it is uncommon for WhatsApp to restrict an account just because someone reads and replies to their chats through a linked app like this. It is still possible, and we cannot give you a number. WhatsApp decides how it checks for this, it can change that at any time, and it does not always explain its decisions. What happens ranges from a warning, to a temporary limit on the account, to closing the number for good. We cannot predict it, we cannot appeal it for you, and we cannot undo it.
4. What keeps the risk low
The best thing you can do is use the app the way you would use WhatsApp yourself: reading your chats and replying to real people who know you.
- The app sends a message only when you tap send, one message at a time. Please keep it that way.
- Please do not use the app for bulk or automatic messaging: no broadcasts, no marketing, no bots or scripts built on top of it, and no messages to people who have not written to you first. That is the kind of use WhatsApp is strictest about, and our terms do not allow it, so we may suspend an account that does it.
- Link only a number that is yours.
Using the app this way lowers the risk. It does not take it away.
5. If WhatsApp ever limits or closes your number
If it happens, here is what you can do.
- Ask WhatsApp for a review. Only WhatsApp can lift a restriction, and the message it shows you usually has a way to ask. WhatsApp's Help Center explains the steps.
- Write to us at [email protected]. Your account in the app does not depend on your WhatsApp number, so you can still sign in and download what the app keeps for you ("Menu", then "Your account", then "Your data"), and we will help if you get stuck.
- Messages and media that only ever lived in WhatsApp are in WhatsApp's hands, which is one more reason to keep WhatsApp's own chat backup turned on.
We cannot get a number back for you or appeal on your behalf, but we will help with everything that is on our side.
6. Think about which number you link
If your business, your income or your family relies on this number, take a moment to think about that before you link it. Some people link that number and keep a recent WhatsApp backup, and others prefer to use a second number for this. Both are reasonable, and it is your call. If you do not feel comfortable, you can unlink the app at any time (section 9).
7. No guarantee
We do not promise that your number stays unaffected or that the connection keeps working. WhatsApp can change how it works at any time, and the link can stop without warning, for a day or for good. We provide the app as it is, and by agreeing to our terms you accept the risk described on this page.
8. Your contacts
People who write to you did not agree to this app. The messages they send you are read by the app so that it can translate them for you. Use the app in a way that respects them and follows the laws where you and they live.
9. How to stop
You can unlink the app at any time in WhatsApp, under Settings, then Linked devices, then the app's entry. You can delete your account in the app, and we will remove the link and your data as described in our privacy policy.
10. Questions
Write to [email protected]. Our full terms and privacy policy explain the rest.
